Safety

You are talking to a stranger on the internet. That is the point of the product and also its main risk, so here is exactly what we do about it.

What we never show anyone

• Your email address. It is used for sign-in and nothing else, and it is never sent to the browser.
• Your exact location. Partners see the country you chose, if you chose one. We do not store or show your IP address or city.
• Your real name, unless you type it yourself. Only your username is public.

In every session

• Report sends us the session and your reason. Reports are reviewed and accounts can be suspended.
• Reports are deduplicated. An account reported by ten different users is automatically suspended and removed from active sessions.
• Block ends the conversation immediately and means the two of you will never be matched again.
• Links, email addresses and phone numbers are refused in chat, which stops most spam before it reaches you.
• Messages are rate-limited, so nobody can flood you.
• Sessions end on a timer. Nothing continues because you were too polite to leave.

Discussion-group safety

• Creators choose a limit from two to ten people. Larger peer-to-peer voice rooms use more bandwidth on every device.
• Group text uses the same link, contact-detail, profanity and spam filters as private chat.
• Group voice stays inside Talkpair and requires an explicit microphone permission from every participant.
• Administrators can close unsafe groups and suspend accounts from the moderation dashboard.

What we ask of you

Never share your address, bank details, documents or passwords — no language partner needs them. Nobody here will ever ask you for money; if someone does, report them. If a conversation makes you uncomfortable, end it. You owe a stranger nothing, and the timer is there so leaving needs no excuse.
